Founded in 1848 as Farrel Foundry & Machinery Company by Almon Farrel of Ansonia, CT. The Buffalo plant was built in 1920, and in 1927 Farrel merged with the Birmingham Iron Foundry of New England to form Farrel - Birmingham Company, Inc. The company manufactured gears, machinery for the production of gears and machines for the rubber, paper, cane sugar, nonferrous metals, plastics, asbestos and stone crushing industries.
